In a night of stars, the Oscars is nothing short of a special occasion that everyone is looking forward to at the beginning of the year. However, this year's event might be more of a standout compared to previous nights.
A Night of Many Firsts
For one, the awards night will be without a host for the first time in thirty years. This occurred following the Academy's decision to push through emcee-less after a controversy about tweets and cheating issues surrounding comedian and supposed-host Kevin Hart.
It looked like the decision earned its merits when ABC, the official broadcaster of the Oscars, confirmed that the new shorter and more simplified format had drawn in more interest.
Another contributing factor of renewed excitement for the Oscars is this year's diverse and inclusive list of nominees. Perhaps nothing exemplifies this more than the Best Picture nomination of the highest-grossing movie of 2018, Marvel's Black Panther. Historically, the Oscars aren't always the platform to validate box-office hits, much more a "superhero" movie.
Now that the backdrop has been set, it's time to know which among the nominees have been chosen to bring home the iconic trophy, lovingly referred to as "Oscar".
